"My work explores the connection between the artist and the model, the energy exchanged between the two. It's about emotional response, tactile, visceral, abstract, created with a limited color palette, leaving the brush strokes and drips raw and unrefined. It's as much a conversation as a picture, a snapshot of emotion, a thread running between the observer and the observed. Connective Tissue."

Color and Shape Experiments

Experiment No.1 Acrylic on Wood 24”  x  24”

When I was teaching at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), Rebecca Woods and I lead a series of workshops called Raw Visceralia. These workshops featured a theme, i.e. touch printing, duality, etc. and occasionally a guest speaker. One of these was my friend Alan Clark, a talented painter from Eugene, Oregon.

Alan shared his painting technique with us, it’s a method that takes some practice but yields some fascinating results.

These are my experiments, augmented with colored pencil and oils. Most are in progress, I plan to update them as they are finished. I’m calling the series Seeds.
