"My work explores the connection between the artist and the model, the energy exchanged between the two. It's about emotional response, tactile, visceral, abstract, created with a limited color palette, leaving the brush strokes and drips raw and unrefined. It's as much a conversation as a picture, a snapshot of emotion, a thread running between the observer and the observed. Connective Tissue."

Visceralia No.42Part of the Connective Tissue/Visceralia Series, this nude study of Erika was created at Hipbone Studio. It’s from a 30 minute pose at the end of a three hour session. I do several gestures to warm up and hit my stride in the 30 minuters. Painters talk about the muse and not being aware of what’s going on when they’re in a trace state. It happened to me with this painting. Viewers see so many different things in this, a mother nursing a child, a figure holding it’s guts in. It’s the power in the arm that does it for me, the strain of holding the rope.
